WWE news: Josh Warrington will join Tyson Fury as SmackDown Live and Monday Night Raw hit Manchester.

TYSON FURY will be able to call on some serious back-up this Friday at WWE’s SmackDown if needed – none other than world champion Josh Warrington.

The Gypsy King, 31, raised eyebrows last month when it was announced he would be swapping the boxing ring for the squared-circle to battle 27st Braun Strowman.

The lineal heavyweight champ defeated the “Monster Among Men” at WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia last week.

And he continued his undefeated record by defeating his huge opponent via countout after KOing Strowman with a right hand.

But his celebration was short-lived, as the former tag-team title holder recovered and hit Fury with a powerslam before departing backstage.

The two men could potentially clash again when WWE hits Manchester on Friday to film SmackDown after the company confirmed Fury would be in attendance.

Now SunSport can reveal that another of England’s most-loved boxing superstars will also be backstage for the extravaganza in the North West.

And the undefeated IBF featherweight title holder Warrington is prepared to follow Fury’s example if any of WWE’s superstars disrespect him.

The 28-year-old Leeds Warrior, a long-time fan of WWE, told SunSport: “I’m very much looking forward to being at the wrestling this Friday in Manchester.

“I remember growing up watching WWE and I’ll be coming along with my nephew, who is two generations down the line and a huge fan now.”

Warrington added: “It’s great to see so many boxers being involved both past and present. Over the years we’ve had Floyd Mayweather and of course we’ve just seen Tyson Fury – who did really well.

“So I’m really looking forward to being a part of it but I’m going to let everyone know now – if anyone starts on me then they’ll be getting a DDT from the Leeds Warrior.

“I might only 5ft 7in, but a kick to the stomach and a DDT and they’ll be out for the count. Let’s have it!”

Stay tuned to @WWEUK on Twitter and Sun Sport for more on Warrington's backstage visit.
