Agrarian Policy Ministry: Ukraine interested in UAE’s investment in irrigation sector.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has expressed interest in attracting investments from the United Arab Emirates’ institutions and companies in the irrigation sector.

This was discussed during a meeting of the Agrarian Policy Ministry representatives with the UAE government delegation led by Minister of State for Food and Water Security of the United Arab Emirates Mariam Almheiri, the Ministry’s press service reports.

"The Ukrainian side expressed a keen interest in attracting investments of UAE’s financial institutions and companies in the irrigation sector of Ukraine in view of favorable conditions for doing business, namely: non-regulated market, simplified tax system for business, and large government preferences," reads the statement.

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko also informed the delegation about the situation in the grain and oilseeds market, noting that Ukraine may hit a new record of grain and oilseeds crop this season. In addition, the minister spoke about the successful implementation of land reform and the start of irrigation reforms in the country.

The minister also informed about the adoption at first reading of bill No. 5202-d on the establishment of a water users' association, which is an extremely important step in the implementation of irrigation reform. In addition, Leshchenko spoke about the unprecedented support of Western partners.

"During the visit to the United States, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy signed Memoranda of Understanding with the International Finance Corporation and the Lindsay Corporation," the minister said.

The parties agreed to provide the UAE’s side with a list of relevant and attractive areas for investment in Ukraine.
