Donald Trump hits back at ‘fake news media’ coverage of Nato summit insisting there was ‘only deep respect’ for US.

DONALD Trump tonight hit back at "fake news media" coverage of his participation in the Nato summit this week - insisting there was "only deep respect" for the US.

President Trump tweeted that he "got along great" with fellow world leaders during what he described as the "VERY successful trip" to London.

And he slammed critics' attempts to "belittle" his performance at the summit - which he left early on Wednesday.

His tweet on Wednesday evening came after a bitter row erupted when leaders were caught gossiping about him at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

A furious Trump earlier branded Justin Trudeau "two faced" after a hot mic recorded the Canadian PM joking about a "40-minute press conference" that had run late.

The US President then gave Mr Trudeau the cold shoulder and barely glanced around as the pair exchanged tense words onstage at the meeting.

The video, from the reporting pool via the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, offered little context but saw Johnson ask Macron "is that why you were late?"

It was then that Trudeau interjected, saying: "He's late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top."

Another part of the conversation saw Trudeau later chuckling: "You just watched his team's jaws drop to the floor."

But the PM denied he was laughing at Mr Trump’s expense, adding: “That’s complete nonsense I don’t know where that’s come from.

Still, an angry Trump responded to the footage by leaving the summit early and cancelling a planned press conference on Wednesday.

Laying into Trudeau, Trump also slammed Canada's contributions to the Nato war-chest, saying: "Honestly, with Trudeau, he's a nice guy.

"But I called him out on the fact he's not paying two per cent.

"And I guess he is not very happy about.

"He is not paying 2 per cent, he should be. They have money."
