He made the boast to Virginia Giuffre - who says she was ordered to have sex with the Duke of York in London, New York and Epstein's private Caribbean island when she was aged 17. Mrs Giuffre, previously Miss Roberts, claimed the tycoon told her the girls were "recruited" by French modelling agent Jean-Luc Brunel and a team of eight paid "talent scouts" who plucked many of them "straight from the soccer fields of Brazil". She said: "Epstein told me he abused over 1,000 women. He didn't, of course, use the word abused. He said he slept with them."

They were all expected to have sex with his friends, including politicians, business leaders and academics, she told American TV network NBC.

The 35-year-old mother-of-three claimed that after being groomed herself by Epstein's alleged fixer - British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell - they later both expected her to help find new underage victims. She said Maxwell told her: "You always have to go for the youngest-looking ones."

Maxwell, 57, and Brunel, the cofounder of New York based agency MC2 Model Management, have both denied being procurers.

British actress and former Playboy model Anouska De Georgiou, now 42, told the documentary she was abused by Epstein, who died aged 66, after moving to the US as a teenager. She said: "Jeffrey thought that we were all disposable and he threw us all away. Look who's still standing."

Twenty-three alleged victims read a series of "impact statements" to a New York judge after Attorney General William Barr told the FBI investigation: "Any co-conspirators should not rest easy."

Prince Andrew denies Mrs Giuffre's allegations against him. He said: "I deplore the exploitation of any human being and would not condone, participate in, or encourage such behaviour."
