Every day until January 18, The Sun and The Sun on Sunday are printing Books For Schools tokens to collect for your local registered primary.

Once a school has collected 3,500 tokens, they will receive a totally free box of more than 100 brilliant reading books from the acclaimed Collins Big Cat programme.

And those free books will make a huge difference to the 309 pupils at Christ Church Primary who are avidly collecting tokens.

Deputy Head Lee Archer is encouraging all parents and grandparents to save tokens from The Sun.

Mr Archer says: “A lot of children here have English as an additional language but all the kids love reading.”

And to encourage them to become hooked on books, the school runs a scheme called Get Caught Reading.

Mr Archer explains: “The challenge is to get a snap of yourself reading somewhere weird and wonderful.

“The teachers take part, too, and I’ve read up in a cherry picker while the kids have read in the park, on their holidays.

"Our governors come in and hear the children read regularly too, not to mention we have a ‘golden ticket’ scheme where children who read a lot are entered into a prize draw.

“Books For Schools is a fantastic campaign and we are delighted we squeezed past the post in time.

“Our library is a good one but the books will make a huge difference and replace some of our tired-looking ones.”
