Law enforcement officers of Vinnytsia region detained malefactors who attacked members of the precinct election commission at night and tried to take possession of election documents, the regional police said.

"On October 26, in the Tulchynsky district at night, two men attacked the election commission, which, after counting the votes, was leaving the precinct with the election documentation. After calling the police crew and using weapons by a policeman, who guarded and escorted the commission members, it was possible to detain the lawbreakers. Now they are providing testimony to investigators," it said on Facebook.

At about four o'clock in the morning in Tulchyn, an Audi car drove up to the members of the commission who were leaving the building where the polling station is located, head of the Main Department of National Police in Vinnytsia region Ivan Ishchenko said.

"Two men ran out of the car and began to threaten the chairman and members of the commission with physical violence. The lawbreakers tried to take away ballots and electoral documents from the chairman of the commission, accusing the commission members of falsification. During the conflict, a police officer accompanied the transportation of documents by members of the precinct commission to the territorial polling stations, used his service weapon and called his colleagues. This caused outrage among the offenders, and they began to threaten the policeman with reprisals," the police said.

Law enforcers detained the attackers and took them to the police station. They turned out to be 25 and 29-year-old residents of the village of Nestervarka, Tulchynsky district. At the time of the offense, the men were in a state of alcoholic intoxication.

The investigation officers initiated criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 157 of the Criminal Code(obstruction of the exercise of the right to vote or the right to participate in a referendum, the work of an election commission)and Part 1 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code(threat or violence against a law enforcement officer).

The suspects were detained in a procedural order. The issue of announcing suspicion notice to them is being resolved.
