KATE Middleton paid a sweet tribute to Princess Diana by wearing her earrings to her engagement today – but she gave them a little make-under first.

Kate, 37, has actually removed diamonds from a pair of Princess Diana's stunning sapphire earrings.
Although she has kept the design of Diana's engagement ring the same, the Duchess altered the clasp detail of her late mother-in-law's stunning sapphire earrings.
The precious earrings were a favourite of Princess Diana's as they perfectly matched her engagement ring.

However, Kate has removed the stud fastening and diamonds, opting to wear the jewels as delicate teardrop earrings.
In a special "letter of wishes" included in her will, Princess Diana wrote: "I would like to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it. I leave the exact division of the jewellery to your discretion."

Kate paired the sentimental earrings with a royal blue dress from one of her favourite designers, Emilia Wickstead.
The price of the dress is unknown as it is a bespoke piece – aptly named the “Kate” dress.
She could be seen carrying an elegant crocodile-effect envelope clutch by Aspinal x Beulah that she was previously spotted with in February 2018.
