Click to play video: 'Do we still need COVID-19 measures at Canadian airports?'

Excessively long line-ups and delays continue to plague many airports this country, especially Toronto's Pearson Airport. COVID-19 protocols are just one of the reasons. But do we still need them? Dr. Sumon Chakrabarti joins Antony to discuss. – May 20, 2022

The Biden administration will drop pre-departureCOVID-19international air testing requirements effective Sunday at 12:01 a.m. after heavy lobbying from airlines and the travel industry, a senior administration official told Reuters.

The Biden administration will announce on Friday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer require pre-departure COVID-19 testing for travellers coming to the United States after it determined based on the science and data that this requirement is no longer necessary. CDC will do a reassessment of this decision in 90 days, the official said.

CNN is reporting the CDC is lifting the restriction after determining it was no longer necessary based on scientific data and that the agency will reassess its decision in 90 days and if officials decide they need to reinstate it.

The pre-departure testing requirement for international travellers arriving into the U.S. has been in place since January 2021.
