
A total of 6,911 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 1,090,496, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has said.
"Some 6,911 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been recorded in Ukraine as of January 6, 2021. In particular, those who have fallen ill include 203 children and 406 health workers," he wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
He said that 228 deaths, 14,490 recoveries and 2,978 hospitalizations were recorded in Ukraine on January 5.
Stepanov noted that 52,968 coronavirus tests, including 34,938 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 18,030 ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) tests, had been performed in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.
The highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases was registered in Kyiv (931), Odesa region (668), Zaporizhia region (622), Kyiv region (596), and Kharkiv region (557).
A total of 5,334 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ukraine on January 4.
