Ukrainian Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has said 3,907 healthcare workers and 1,434 children have contracted the COVID-19 coronavirus in Ukraine.

"In total, 20,148 people, including 1,434 children, as well as 3,907 healthcare workers, have contracted the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic," he said during an online briefing on Friday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

In terms of regions, the largest number of confirmed cases over the past day was registered in Lviv region – 65, Chernivtsi region – 63, and the city of Kyiv – 47, the minister said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, there were 20,148 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ukraine as of 09:00 Kyiv time on May 22.

A total of 588 COVID-19 deaths have already been recorded in the country. Some 6,585 patients have recovered.
