Emmys 2019: Fleabag sweeps awards as Phoebe Waller-Bridge and ‘hot priest’ Andrew Scott celebrate.

The show, which stars 34-year-old Phoebe as what she described last night as a "dirty, pervy, angry, messed-up woman" in London, proved a huge hit with the Emmy judges.

Phoebe said she was "really shaking" after collecting her first award for writing, explaining: "I find writing really hard and really painful but the reason I do it is this. So thank you so much."

She added: "It’s just really wonderful to know and reassuring that a dirty, pervy, angry messed up woman can make it to the Emmys so thank you so much.”

Collecting her second award - for lead actress - she cried: "Oh my god, no. Thank you. To be nominated with these unbelievable actresses I’ve looked up to is incredible.

"It’s sickening how much we all love each other, I’ve been so supported by the whole cast."

By the time the show got its fourth award, Phoebe looked exhausted to have been up on her feet all night, gasping: "This is just getting ridiculous.

"Fleabag started as a one woman show at Edinburgh festival in 2014. The journey has been absolutely mental to get here.

"This is about season two, it would not have happened if it was not for Andrew Scott, who came into our Fleabag as a whirlwind and he gave a performance with such depth and integrity that blew us all away. Fleabag says thanks."

Fleabag got an impressive 11 nominations and ended up landing four wins.

The haul includes prizes for Outstanding lead actress for Phoebe, Outstanding directing in a comedy series, Outstanding writing for a comedy series and Outstanding comedy series.
