Who is Andrew Fisher and why is he resigning?

Andrew Fisher was a senior policy adviser in the Labour Party.

He's a political activist and author, having worked as an adviser under Corbyn since his election as leader of the party in 2015.

On 21 September 2019 he announced that he was resigning before the end of the year to spend more time with his family.

However, The Sunday Times reports the aide quit amid concerns a class war had gripped the upper realms of the party in a dig at Corbyn's top team.

It plunged the Labour boss' leadership into fresh chaos on the eve of their party conference after head of policy Andrew Fisher announced he would walk out.

He allegedly launched a stinging attack on the party's top team in a memo to friends, slamming their “lack of professionalism, competence and human decency” and said he was sick of their “blizzard of lies and excuses."

However, Fisher is still tweeting in support of Corbyn, writing: "Delighted to hear Mark Serwotka tell #Lab19 that
@pcs_union will back a Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour Party in the next General Election."

In a statement he claimed he was quitting so he could spend more time with his family - and young son.

"I'm now choosing to prioritise them," he said in a statement.

"I will stay on for any autumn general election, but will be leaving by the end of the year."

It comes amid rumours that the Labour boss himself, who is now 70, could quit because he's under "incredible pressure".

He plans to leave by the end of the year but says he will stay on should there be an autumn general election.

He said: "The long hours, stresses and strains that inevitably come from working in this high pressure environment mean I haven't managed to balance my commitments to my wife and young son.

"So after four years, I'm now choosing to prioritise them. I will stay on for any autumn general election, but will be leaving by the end of the year."
