President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda believes that the Baltic countries could not cope with the threat from the Russian Federation in the region without US assistance. Nauseda stated this during the expert discussion "US forces in the Baltic countries: deterrence or provocation" at the Munich Security Conference, his press service said.
“Without the support of the United States and other NATO allies, we would not be able to effectively contain the Russian threat. Our geographic and geopolitical position requires us to use our resources as efficiently as possible. It is important that NATO forces in Lithuania are as prepared as possible, constantly trained, and participate in exercises with the armed forces of Lithuania received quick reinforcements if necessary," - the president said.
He is convinced that for effective deterrence, the potential aggressor should receive a clear signal about the readiness of the Baltic countries to respond and countermeasures in case of violation of their security and sovereignty.
