Horse racing tips: St Leger trends – we help you find the winner of the Doncaster contest live on ITV this Saturday at 3.

IT’S hard to get away from LOGICIAN when it comes to the St Leger stats.

The John Gosden hopeful ticks all the boxes and can strike. A key trend is to stick with horses that finished in the first three last time out.

That means second-favourite Sir Dragonet has a lot to do having been fourth at The Curragh last time. It’s also bad news for Dashing Willoughby, Nayef Road and Western Australia who were all off the podium.

Almost all St Leger winners had already tasted success at Group level which is a minus for Il Paradiso who hasn’t managed that.

Both he and Sir Dragonet do have a major positive as their trainer Aidan O’Brien has won this three times since 2013. But they have a gap to bridge on form.

That leaves us with hot favourite Logician along with lively longshots Sir Ron Priestley and Technician.

The latter are both a little low on the official ratings to be winning a Classic but there’s every chance that one of them will hit the frame.

But Logician won the Great Voltigeur in style at York last time and that’s a good trial for this race. Favourites have a decent record lately and Frankie Dettori can land his first St Leger since 2008.
