Mortgage lending grew by 11.5% in 2020 – NBU Governor

Mortgage lending in Ukraine grew by 11.5% in 2020 compared to 2019, whereas the mortgage rate decreased by 6 percentage points, according to Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Kyrylo Shevchenko.

"In the second half of 2020, mortgage lending accelerated. The overall increase in mortgage lending in 2020 totalled 11.5%," Shevchenko said during the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Infrastructure" on February 22, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to the NBU Governor, last year the interest rate on mortgage loans decreased by more than 6 percentage points, from 19% to 12.8-16% per annum, depending on the objects of lending. Shevchenko explained that lending rates of the primary and secondary real estate market differ because the primary market is more risky. Currently, 85% of loans are issued for secondary housing.
