Heavy rain will continue to batter Wales and the northwest of England today - causing flooding and travel disruption.

Flash floods and intense thunderstorms are predicted across much of the UK as the remains of Hurricane Humberto hit.

On Tuesday, a 15-hour yellow weather warning is in place over the southwest as severe showers are expected.

Met Office forecasters warn that remnants of Hurricane Humberto will cause the sharp downpours, lasting until Thursday.

First, fog patches will accompany the downpours in northern England on Monday, reducing visibility for drivers on the roads.

Interruption to power supplies is also expected because of lightning strikes, and forecasters have warned that flooding in homes is likely in the affected areas.

The deluge will batter the west and south-west of England - which will make its way across the country throughout the day.

Storms and brisk winds will travel across the UK - signalling the end to the warm summer weather.

The Met Office has described the weather this week as "unsettled" following the weekend of hot weather thatreached over 21C.

And there will be little rest from the horrible weather before the remnants of Hurricane Humberto continue into Tuesday.

YELLOW WARNING

A severe wet weather warning has been issued for the south-west of the UK on Tuesday, affecting southern parts of England and Wales.

As the week continues, the deluge and intense winds are expected to lash the country as autumn officially begins.

Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said last night: “A very different and more autumnal week is ahead, with wet and sometimes windy weather as temperatures fall back to the high teens.

“The remnants of Humberto are caught in a deep low-pressure area bringing outbreaks of wet weather from Monday night until Thursday, mostly in the West but with nowhere exempt.

“There will be gale-force 40-45mph gusts on West coasts into Tuesday.
