The couple were filming the upcoming BBC special A Berry Royal Christmas when conversation turned to The Queen.

He said: "My grandmother [became] Queen at a very young age, in the days when it was a man's world, it was very difficult for her to make a difference.

"And she's done it. In her own very unique, distinct way - my grandmother and my grandfather together are the epitome of public service."

Queen Elizabeth is Britain's longest-reigning monarch and inherited the throne when she was just 25 years old.

The Queen has over 600 patronages and became the first British monarch to celebrate her Sapphire Jubilee marking 65 years on the throne in 2017.

Later in the show, the Duke told Mary Berry: "I personally get a lot out of helping people."

The couple's visit to The Passage - which is the UK’s largest resource centre for homeless and insecurely housed people - cemented William's life-long connection to the charity, which he visited with his mother in 1993.

Earlier this week, an insider on the show revealed that Kate Middleton's "heart-warming" conversations with members of the public seeking help from the charity will give viewers a "good sense of who she is".

A Berry Royal Christmas, will air on December 16, at 8.30pm on BBC One.

In more Royal Family news, Mary Berry has defended Kate Middleton's cooking skills after Prince William said it was "the reason I'm so skinny".

And Helena Bonham Carter asked Prince William to be her daughter's godfather - but he declined.

Plus Prince William says George tells Charlotte he's "better than her" at football and explains how he settles sibling rivalry.
