Brit adviser claims US diplomat carried out a controversial ‘domestic political errand’ for Donald Trump.

A BRITISH adviser yesterday told Donald Trump’s impeachment hearing a US ambassador carried out a “domestic political errand” for the President.

County Durham-born Fiona Hill, 54, who sat on the White House’s National Security Council, said Gordon Sondland did not keep her in the loop over Ukraine.

But explaining she now understood his stance, she added: “He was being involved in a domestic political errand and we were being involved in national security foreign policy, and those two things had just diverged.”

Mr Trump has been accused of withholding military aid from Ukraine unless it agreed to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Ms Hill — a Russia expert at the White House until this summer — also told the hearing in Washington it was clear Mr Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani was pursuing probes into the Bidens in Ukraine.

The coal miner’s daughter recounted a July meeting at the White House when she clashed with Sondland — blaming sexism.

She said: “I was actually, to be honest, angry with him.

"And I hate to say it, but often when women show anger it’s not fully appreciated — it’s often pushed onto emotional issues, perhaps, or deflected onto other people.”

Ms Hill also warned Republicans — and implicitly Trump — to stop pushing a “fictional” narrative that Ukraine, rather than Russia, interfered in US elections.
