Servant of the People party plans to amend law on Central Election Commission.

The parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People political party plans to amend the law on the Central Election Commission of Ukraine.

"I will also initiate amendments to the law on the Central Election Commission because the CEC has very broad powers in some cases while does no make enough efforts in other cases because the powers are not sufficient," Oleksandr Kachura, the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Organization of State Authority, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Development, said at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to him, all political forces will be able to join the formation of a new composition of the Central Election Commission.

“Our political force will involve all political factions in the Parliament as it should be in accordance with the effective legislation. And I would like us to bring the number of members of the Central Election Commission in line with the law. There should be 15 members, not 17 as we have now,” the lawmaker said.

"We must now form a completely new composition of the CEC - a professional staff – so that the CEC will be electoral rather than executive body and will not subordinate to any political force," Kachura explained.
