U.S. Congress committee approves bill to provide $481.5 mln in aid to Ukraine

The House Committee on Appropriations approved a bill on appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2022, stipulating that at least $481.5 million should be allocated for the implementation of Ukraine assistance programs.

As the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States posted on Facebook, the U.S. Congress is working to approve aid packages for Ukraine in the 2022 budget.

In particular, the House Committee on Appropriations approved a bill on appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2022.

The total amount of funds to be allocated for the implementation of Ukraine assistance programs through the Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development, and related programs is at least $481.5 million. The Embassy emphasized that the projected assistance increased by $28.5 million compared to the current year.

"Of these appropriations, $125 million will be allocated for security assistance to Ukraine within the Foreign Military Financing program with an increase of $10 million compared to 2021," the Embassy noted.

In addition, the bill approved by the committee contains provisions on the threat of completion of Nord Stream 2.

Moreover, the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee approved the U.S. Department of Defense appropriations bill for the fiscal year 2022. The bill provides for the allocation of $275 million for security assistance to Ukraine under the Pentagon's Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative

The Embassy added that the committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate are currently drafting the National Defense Authorization Act for the fiscal year 2022.
