The National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), chaired by President Volodymyr Zelensky, held a meeting at which it considered the national security strategy of Ukraine. The website of the President’s Office reports.
The President invited the meeting participants to work out the draft strategy in detail and submit their proposals.
“And after that we will meet and approve the document,” - he added.
NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said that the draft National Security Strategy of Ukraine was developed in accordance with Art. 26 of the Law "On National Security of Ukraine". The document was based on the electoral program of the president, which was supported by the vast majority of the country's population. The National Institute for Strategic Studies, government agencies, civil society institutions, as well as foreign experts were involved in preparing the project.
Danilov emphasized that the key aspects of the Strategy are a person, his life, health, honor, dignity, integrity and security. The ultimate goal of its implementation is the establishment of a free, rich, safe country, dominated by law, where everyone can realize their talents and abilities.
The strategy will become the basis for the development of other strategic planning documents in the areas of national security and defense.
We are talking about a human development strategy, a military security strategy, a public security and civil defense strategy, a defense industry development strategy, an economic, environmental, information security strategy, a cybersecurity strategy, a national intelligence program, a foreign policy security strategy, a state strategy security, counterintelligence and counter-terrorism and the like.
It is proposed to introduce three main principles into the basis of activity: the development of defensive and security capabilities that would make armed aggression against Ukraine impossible by increasing the price of this aggression; the ability of society and the state to quickly and adequately respond to changes in a safe environment and maintain the stable functioning of basic mechanisms; development of strategic relations with key foreign partners, primarily with the European Union and NATO member countries, pragmatic cooperation with other countries and international organizations based on the national interests of Ukraine.
The priority areas of national security policy in the draft Strategy are determined by ensuring independence and state sovereignty, social development, first of all - the development of human capital, protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens of Ukraine, European and Euro-Atlantic integration (creating the necessary conditions for gaining full membership in the EU and NATO, restoration of territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine.
