Enemy attacks Ukrainian positions in Luhansk region, pushed back.
In Luhansk region, the enemy continues to pursue scorched-earth tactics, having no regrets about civilian population and their homes.
"On August 5, in the frontline area between Luhansk region and Donetsk region, the enemy fired five rockets and used tube and rocket artillery six more times. Mortars were used three times. Russian assaults were backed by tank fire and aviation. In several directions, the Russians tried to capture more advantageous lines, improve their tactical position, but were forced to retreat," Serhiy Haidai, Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, posted on Facebook.
Enemy troops advance towards Bakhmut, hostilities are ongoing.
"The occupiers actually destroyed the towns, made hundreds of thousands of people homeless, 90% of whom were evacuated. Many of those who stayed live in basements and shelters. At first, they were deprived of everything, and now they are forced to vote at a pseudo-referendum. In particular, such a situation is observed in Lysychansk, Sievierodonetsk, Popasna, Rubizhne, Hirske, Zolote and the localities of these communities," the head of the region noted.
He emphasized that campaigning for the referendum on the region's accession to the Russian Federation had intensified in Luhansk region.
Under the guise of providing food or construction materials, the occupation authorities and collaborators organize meetings with the population of the recently captured territories of the region.
"They lure out personal data, urging people to come to the so-called referendum, forcing people to exchange their will for food, drinking water, and OSB plates," Haidai added.
As reported, the invaders have intensified enforced mobilization in the occupied territory of Luhansk region.
