Ukrainian sappers arrive in Tokyo to continue training after sessions in Cambodia.

Ukrainian sappers, after training in Cambodia, where they mastered working with high-tech Japanese landmine detectors equipped with the ALIS system, arrived in Tokyo to continue their training.

"These days, a delegation of the State Emergency Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is in Japan. After training in Cambodia, our guys arrived in Tokyo to continue their training, as well as meet with the leadership of the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan," Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky posted on Facebook.

Korsunsky noted that Japan will hand over the first batch of landmine demining equipment to Ukraine, and currently the Japanese side is studying the issue of expanding this project, taking into account the experience of practical application.

As reported, the Japan International Cooperation Agency launched a multi-level program of cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The first component of cooperation was a pilot project within which sappers of the State Emergency Service will receive high-tech equipment for humanitarian demining. These are mine detectors equipped with the ALIS (advanced landmine imaging system) which are able not only to find a potential explosive object under the ground but also to show its shape on the monitor.

The project officially began in January with the training of Ukrainian sappers in Cambodia, where eight explosives technicians from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi mastered the skills of working with the new device.
