Pope Francis’s representative in Ukraine comes under Russian fire in country’s south.

The representative of the Pope in Ukraine, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, together with the accompanying persons, came under fire in the war zone on Saturday while transporting humanitarian aid.

As a result of the shelling, neither Cardinal Krajewski nor any of the accompanying persons were injured, Ukrinform reports with reference to ANSA.

The cardinal was on a humanitarian mission alongside Catholic and Protestant bishops, accompanied by a Ukrainian military serviceman.

It is noted that the group was set to distribute humanitarian aid in settlements "which no one but soldiers now enters."

On one of the planned stages of the trip, the group came under fire and the cardinal had to run for shelter, like anyone else. "For the first time in my life, I didn't know where to run because running is not enough, you need to know where to run," the cardinal told the Vatican media, speaking in Zaporizhia.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Pope's representative, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, is making his fourth visit to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation.
