Liz Truss: 5 Points On Foreign Secretary Hoping To Become UK PM

Liz Truss is in a close fight with Rishi Sunak to become the UK's next Prime Minister.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, in the race to 10 Downing Street, is in a tight contest with Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor. According to latest data, her poll lead against Mr Sunak is shrinking.

Here are five points on Liz Truss

  1. Mary Elizabeth Truss was born in Oxford in 1975. Her father was a mathematics professor at the University of Leeds and mother was a nurse. According to the BBC , Ms Truss played Margaret Thatcher in a school play when she was nine years old.

  2. Her family moved to Scotland when Ms Truss was four where she attended West Primary School in Paisley, Renfrewshire, according to Independent . She studied politics, philosophy and economics at Merton College, Oxford.

  3. Ms Truss graduated in 1996 and became a commercial manager at Shell, the outlet further said. She also worked as economic director of Cable & Wireless Communications.

  4. Ms Truss married Hugh O'Leary, an accountant, in 2000 and the couple has two daughters.

  5. Ms Truss formally entered politics in 2010 as a Tory candidate, winning the South West Norfolk seat and retaining it ever since.
