President of Austria arrives in Kyiv
Federal President of neutral Austria Alexander Van der Bellen arrived in Kyiv on a visit on Wednesday.
"Arrived in Kyiv. After almost one year of war, Ukraine is not forgotten. Together with President Zelensky and the brave people of Ukraine – we stand for European values," Van der Bellen posted on Twitter.
In another video, filmed on a train on the way to Ukraine, the President of Austria said that he was going to Kyiv to show solidarity with Ukrainians who are repelling the Russian invasion: "The fact that this trip to Kyiv is taking place right after my official inauguration is a purposeful manifestation of solidarity and support for people in Ukraine."
According to the Austrian leader, he will meet with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.
Van der Bellen is accompanied by the Austrian delegation which is bringing a specific aid package, "in particular, urgently needed generators."
"Yes, Austria is committed to military neutrality. But our position is by no means neutral. Ukrainians are fighting for their country and the future of their children, and we help them in this," the President of Austria emphasized.
Alexander Van der Bellen, who won the Austrian presidential election last October, was sworn in to begin his second six-year term on January 26.
