Russians not allow ICRC to access correctional facility in Olenivka – Lubinets.

Russians do not allow the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to access a correctional facility in the occupied village of Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) were killed in explosion on the night of July 29, 2022.

The relevant statement was made by Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Despite Russia’s claims that they had provided access for the representatives of the ICRC and the UN Monitoring Mission to the incident site in Olenivka, today I have received a response from the ICRC that no, they were not granted such access,” Lubinets told.

In his words, the Ukrainian ombudsman’s office has established a smooth official and unofficial communication with the ICRC representatives, but the situation with the UN representatives is ‘worse’ in this regard.

“I send letters and requests. I did it immediately on the first day after the tragedy. I personally did not receive any signal, even unofficial. I can publicly confirm this,” Lubinets noted.

A reminder that, on the night of July 29, 2022, a powerful explosion took place within the former correctional facility situated in Donetsk Region’s Olenivka, where Russians kept Ukrainian POWs. At least 50 Ukrainian defenders were reported killed.
