Ukraine ready to discuss obtaining security guarantees from permanent members of UN Security Council, neighbors - FM.

Ukraine is ready to discuss obtaining security guarantees from the permanent members of the UN Security Council and neighbors, similar to those provided for by the North Atlantic Treaty, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.

"My Constitution says something, and I cannot speak against my Constitution. But if we could reach an agreement where the same system of guarantees provided for by the North Atlantic Treaty was provided to Ukraine by the permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia, Turkey (a great friend and neighboring country), all our neighbors – this is what we are ready to discuss," Kuleba said at a press conference following talks with Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu in Antalya on Thursday.

He stressed that the war is going on now, Ukraine exists in a security vacuum, so it must think creatively about how to solve this problem and ensure its security.

Kuleba pointed out that the Constitution of Ukraine provides for the country's accession to NATO and the receipt of security guarantees provided by the North Atlantic Treaty.

"However, we understand that this will not happen in an instant, not even in the foreseeable future. We also see from the response of NATO as an alliance to Russian aggression against Ukraine that NATO is not ready to act collectively to stop the war and protect civilians in Ukraine from Russian air raids. It has delegated authority to assist member states on a bilateral basis. This raises the question of how to ensure the security of Ukraine between now and eventual NATO membership," he said.
