This year, an unprecedented number of participants take part in the exercise - about 2,500 servicemen from 15 countries. In addition to Ukraine and the U.S., military personnel from Canada, Bulgaria, Georgia, Estonia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Turkey and the United Kingdom are involved in the exercises.
The largest foreign contingents are from the armies of the USA and Canada, a total of about 500 people. The national grouping (more than a thousand people) is represented by servicemen of one of the mechanized brigades of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, an airborne brigade, engineering and demining divisions, and a separate division of the National Guard of Ukraine.
Rapid Trident 2017 aims at introduction of the best practices of armies from leading countries of the world in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the exchange of professional skills, the improvement of the level of interaction between the headquarters and units of the land forces of Ukraine, the United States, the armies of NATO member countries and partners, as well as Partnership for Peace program participants.
The exercise includes command and staff, as well as field phases, during which the command staff and officers of the headquarters of the multinational units of the battalion-brigade level will train in general planning and conduct of operations. The personnel of the units will work out tactical elements aimed at accomplishing tasks that take into account the experience of confronting hybrid forms of armed aggression.
