Klimkin, Szijjártó had frank conversation regarding educational law

Klimkin said this during a joint press conference with his Hungarian counterpart following a bilateral meeting, Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa informed on Twitter.

"There was a frank conversation with Péter Szijjártó based on arguments not interpretations and based on facts not mythology," Klimkin said.

He stressed that the law on education is not directed against any minority. "Every compatriot must learn the state language, in addition to his native language," Klimkin said.

The minister has also assured that Ukraine does not intend to close schools or dismiss teachers.

"In order to address concerns of Hungarian colleagues, we submitted the law for examination to the Venice Commission. We are open to a constructive dialogue. I hope our arguments have been heard. We will hold a discussion on the implementation of the law," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.

Speaking about the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, Klimkin noted that "this is a path of reforms that is important for Ukrainian citizens, including those of Hungarian origin."
